PUDUCHERRY: The PMK general council which convened on Saturday in Puducherry passed a single resolution urging the party functionaries and cadres to strive hard for the victory of the candidates of AIADMK, PMK and BJP in all the 40 parliamentary constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls.

The council also urged the party founder leader S Ramadoss to constituted campaign coordination committees comprising representatives from all parties in the alliance in the state-level and constituency-level to strive hard for the victory of the alliance led by AIADMK.

The council in its last meeting in December last year at Coimbatore discussed in detail on the strategies to be adopted in the ensuing 2019 Lok Sabha polls and bestowed the power on the party founder-leader to take a final call. The council justified its decision to forge an alliance with the AIADMK arguing that it has become necessary to elect the maximum number of PMK representatives from Tamil Nadu to the Lok Sabha to restore the rights of the state and obtain the maximum number of welfare and development schemes for Tamil Nadu.

The council termed the alliance between PMK and AIADMK ‘natural’. "The alliance was formed keeping in mind the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu. If forging an alliance with like-minded parties is the mantra to win polls, the unity and coordination among the parties in the alliance will serve as pillars to achieve success in the polls. In that way, it is natural for AIADMK and PMK to form an alliance. BJP has also joined the alliance. Many more parties will join the alliance soon," read the resolution.

The council also pointed out that PMK laid 10 preconditions to join the alliance headed by the AIADMK. The preconditions include declaring the Cauvery delta regions as protected agricultural zones, evolving schemes exclusively to promote irrigation, undertaking caste-wise census in the state, releasing seven people convicted in late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, enforcing prohibition in a phased manner, implementing old-age pension scheme for the government servants and scrapping National eligibility cum entrance test (Neet) among others.

Earlier, Ramadoss urged the party functionaries and cadres to strive hard for the victory of the alliance in all 21 assembly constituencies that face by-elections. "Similarly the party functionaries and cadres must work hard for the victory of the alliance in the local body polls scheduled in June-July this year," he said.
