MANSFIELD — Two people died in a small plane crash Saturday afternoon at Mansfield Municipal Airport, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

State police said the crash happened around 12:36 p.m. and that the plane caught fire.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Cessna 172 aircraft had two people on board.

Mansfield police, firefighters and other emergency services are at the scene. State police said firefighters are working on fire suppression.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident.

State police said they are also investigating the incident, along with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
