SRINAGAR: JKLF chief Yasin Malik was detained Friday night amid indications of a wider crackdown on separatists in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
Police and paramilitary forces have been put on high alert but there was no confirmation about any more detentions.
The action comes eight days after an audacious terror attack on a convoy in Pulwama district in which 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives.
Earlier this week, the security cover of 18 separatist leaders, including Yasin Malik, and 155 Jammu and Kashmir politicians has been withdrawn in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack.
A spokesperson of the Home Department said it was felt that providing security to these separatist leaders was "a wastage of scarce state resources which could be better utilised elsewhere".
