Capital airport infrastructure project launched

Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the Centre is launching several initiatives to ensure that the aviation sector contributes to the economy and civil aviation turns a job-creation sector.

“We have launched a 2040-Vision and have thought of all the points in it so that aviation sector can grow holistically. We have started work in different parts of the country today, at the same time, in order to bring the aviation sector ahead. Because, until all the regions of the country are developed, we cannot say that we have successfully fulfilled our responsibilities,” the Union Minister said. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone through videoconferencing from Delhi on Friday for the infrastructure projects of seven airports managed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and inaugurating a function organised to commission key infrastructure projects at the Thiruvananthapruam and Calicut International Airports.

Announcing plans of the Ministry to roll out the air cargo policy soon, Mr. Prabhu said the Centre was preparing a road map in order to encourage companies to build aircraft in the country itself.

Inaugurated

Later, at a function organised in front of the international terminal of the capital’s airport, Governor P. Sathasivam inaugurated the ₹20-crore passenger boarding bridge and laid the foundation stone for the ₹25.83- crore for the additional apron and ground support area.

He also inaugurated the ₹121-crore new International Arrival block of the Calicut airport.
