KANNUR: The special investigation team (SIT) has recovered two swords, suspected to be used for the murder of two Youth Congress workers, Kripesh and Sarath Lal, near Periya in Kasaragod from the five accused arrested last days.

Police have also retrieved a shirt said to be worn by the accused at the time of murder and some burnt clothes during the probe. The samples would be subjected to forensic investigation.

According to Crime Detachment Cell DSP Pradeep Kumar, who is heading the investigation team, there were blood stains on one sword which was recovered from a cashew nut plantation in Echiladukkam on Friday

There was no indication of any quotation gang involved in the murder, police said adding, it was the personal enmity of Periya local secretary of the CPM, A Peethambaran, which led to the murder.

Search operation was underway for couple of other accused, who have helped the gang in the execution of the murders and to escape from the spot of crime, said the officials. The investigation team is preparing to hand over the case files to the crime branch.

As of now seven people including Peethambaran have been arrested. He was later expelled from the party.

Meanwhile, the Youth Congress took out a protest march to the office of the DSP in Kanhangad demanding the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the double murder case.

When all doors are closed the people would be forced to reach the condition of taking law into their hands, said senior Congress leader K Muraleedharan.

"Though we are all followers of Gandhiji, we should remember that Subhash Chandra Bose was also the president of the Congress for some time and he had said that when need arises one should take the weapons," he said during the march.
