Modern rest rooms for tourists at Mettupalayam station soon

Southern Railway - Salem Division has decided to extend the Mettupalayam-Coonoor special Nilgiris Mountain Railway (NMR) train to Udhagamandalam.

Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, U. Subba Rao announced this during an inspection of the Mettuppalayam station on Thursday. He took stock of the existing facilities and the improvements required to develop the station into a terminal with a capacity to handle larger trains.

Works inspected

The DRM also inspected the ongoing platform extension works and creation of passenger amenities at the station that sees scores of tourists from across the nation and from abroad.

The DRM visited the rail museum and the NMR workshop.

He held discussions with officials on the infrastructure requirements of the station, taking into account the future growth and increase in the low of tourists. Discussions were also held on providing catering facility on the NMR train.

Mr. Subba Rao told newspersons that Mettuppalayam was a gateway for tourists to Udhagamandalam. Therefore, there was a need to improve the facilities. Very soon, the station would have modern rest rooms for tourists.
