JAIPUR: With the end of the financial year, Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has initiated action against the defaulters of water bills. On Friday, PHED cut connections of two hotels and a police station in Jaipur.
Sadar police station hasn’t paid the dues of Rs 1.84 lakh for over a year. taking an action against this, PHED department cut off the water connection. Moreover, Sadar police station also had two illegal water connections and the department cut them off too. If the police station won’t immediately pay the bill, more action will follow against them.
Executive engineer of north zone, Bhawani Singh while talking to TOI explained that as it is the end of the financial year, this process is going on everywhere in the city. “We had given them many notices earlier, on which they did not act. Hence we cut total seven water connections today. Two hotels are also included with the police station. A huge amount is due for a long time and the department is working day and night to collect bills. Around Rs five crore is pending in my zone itself; in north zone, Rs 12 crore and for the whole city, the number can be around Rs 60 crore,” said Bhawani Singh.
Department has set a target to collect up to 50% of the total bills due. If even discontinuing the water connections doesn’t work, department might as well auction the property of the defaulter.
In another case, in Chomu municipal corporation, tanker transporters were allegedly doing fraud in the name of supplying water in the city. As per an official, for the last three months, 122 tankers were supplied every day and Rs 21.96 lakh was paid to them. However, in the investigation it was revealed that contractors were not supplying tankers in city but were selling them in black market. They removed the GPS system from the tankers and installed it on their personal vehicles to show the movement. Investigation is under process.
