The stage is set for the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
The Legislature Secretariat issued notification to the members in this regard and called for applications from the aspiring members on Saturday. The notification to this effect had been dispatched to the members of the Assembly and the election process, if any, would be taken up on Saturday.
With the name of former minister T. Padma Rao doing rounds as the prospective candidate on behalf of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the election process had become a mere formality as the Opposition does not have enough strength to put up its candidate for the post.
Once the process is completed, Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy will announce the name of the new Deputy Speaker on Monday immediately after the Legislative Assembly is convened. The new deputy Speaker would assume charge immediately.
