Activists urge CoP to trace Mugilan

CHENNAI: Representatives of various organisations met Chennai police commissioner A K Vishwanathan on Thursday and urged him to trace social activist Mugilan, who is missing since February 15.
On February 18, human rights activist Henri Tiphagn moved the Madras high court seeking a direction to the state police to trace and produce anti-sterlite activist Mugilan.
Mugilan alias Shanmugam, coordinator of the Tamil Nadu Environment Protection Movement which spearheaded the anti-sterlite movement, conducted a press meet in Chennai on February 15 based on the evidences and documents gathered by him on May 22 Tuticorin firing. During the meet, Mugilan demonstrated the involvement of higher police officers in the firing and named the then inspector general for south range Shaliesh Kumar Yadav and deputy inspector general of police, Tirunelveli, Kapil Kumar Saratkar on the basis of evidences available with him.
Later, he boarded a train from Egmore railway station to Madurai but didn’t reach the destination. Since there was threat to his life, representatives from Arappor Iyakkam and Semmai Samugam urged police to speed up the case and trace him.
