With two officers’ associations – AIBOC and NOBW – abstaining from the wage talks called by the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) on Thursday, the association has said that it would be constrained to restrict the discussions to workmen unions only.

The workmen unions comprising members of AIBEA, NCBE, BEFI, INBEF and NOBW have planned to meet on March 1, 2019, to discuss the issue. In a communication issued here today, the General Secretary of AIBEA, CH Venkatachalam, said the representatives have appealed to IBA to resolve the issue amicably so that all member constituents of UFBU participate in the discussions.

To a query on the fate of officers’ wage revision, the IBA is learnt to have said that if talks are to be held only with workmen unions, whatever is finalised with the their unions would be extended and implemented for the officers too.

Issues discussed

Venkatachalam further said that issues such as 5-day banking, improvement in family pension, periodical updation of pension, reconsideration of NPS for the post 2010 employees/ officers, and other common issues, were taken up at the meeting for discussion. IBA, however, maintained that they would not be able to proceed further until the representation issue is resolved and all nine unions participate in the talks.
