BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man who called Bagalagunte police station and sexually harassed women cops was arrested on Wednesday.

Ramesh Naika, a resident of Manjunatha Nagar, off Hesaraghatta Main Road, and from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh, also obstructed personnel from discharging their duty by providing false information of a murder and rape by calling the police station and control room, cops said.

Ramesh is a construction worker and has been booked under IPC sections 354 (sexual harassment) and 353 (obstructing cops from discharging their duty) on the basis of a complaint lodged by a woman constable. According to police, the complainant was deployed on IT duty — preparing FIRs, NCRs and uploading them on the police department website — on Wednesday morning. She received a call on the official phone around 9am and the caller stared abusing her.

“He abused her in filthy language and told her that he was waiting for the woman cop at the 8th milestone on Tumakuru Road before disconnecting the call. Within a few minutes, he again called from another mobile number and told the woman cop that he was in Manjunatha Nagar and he had raped a woman, daring police to catch him,” an officer said.

In the third call, the miscreant informed the personnel about a murder in Manjunatha Nagar and again challenged them to catch him. Police learnt the same miscreant had called the Namma 100 helpline and provided false information about a murder and rape in Bagalagunte area.

Police said Ramesh abused at least four women constables in Bagalagunte police station. He was produced before the court, which remanded him in judicial custody.
