FALL RIVER — After losing her daughter three years ago, Laura Eaton has found the motivation not only to go on, but to live well, and to start her own business helping people discover their own journey to wellness.

“I know Nelly gave this to me,” Eaton said.

Janelle “Nelly” Eaton became locally famous for her courageous and graceful battle with cancer that ended on Nov. 21, 2015, at the age of 17. Since that time, her mom and family have continued the Nelly Strong Foundation to promote public education and awareness about natural healing for those with chronic and critical illnesses.

Troy City Wellness, a business specializing in CBD oil and other natural wellness products, will open on March 2 at 222 E. Main St. It is the first CBD oil shop in the city, though some others do sell CBD products.

“Before doctors and pharmaceutical labs, there were no pills. There was this plant,” Eaton said.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound of the cannabis plant that alternative medicine practitioners, and some traditional health care professionals, believe may help people find relief from anxiety, pain, epilepsy, stress, skin conditions and more.

It is a full-spectrum organic product that is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce a “high.”

Eaton said she’s had an interest in CBD oil years before it became mainstream when she saw it help her daughter deal with the effects of her disease.

“I did this for Nelly,” Eaton said. “This is why I’m doing it. I just want to help people.”

Eaton said she and her children use the product.

“This is healing me so much,” Eaton said. “I try to eliminate things that harm us.”

She’s hoping to do the same for the public.

The wellness aspect of her shop will be to offer guidance and literature on the different CBD oil products, including Hempzilla.

“Education is important,” Eaton said.

Troy City Wellness CBD Oil Marketplace will carry CBD tincture to be taken orally, cream, vaping products, honey, and gummy bears, as well as products for pets.

Her wellness line also includes hemp shampoo, body wash, muscle salve, massage oil and more.

Eaton said her “vision” for the shop will be to offer CBD-infused water, coffee, tea, detox juices, chakra balancing, yoga, and reiki, plus items like bracelets, candles and essential oils.

She said she located her business on East Main Street, in a “crisis neighborhood,” between a pharmacy and an addiction treatment center because she thought it was needed.

“I’m excited. I’m nervous,” Eaton said. “It’s a whole new journey.”

Troy City Wellness will open Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. Regular business hours will be Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
