The longline puffer jacket in metallic and neon hues has been having a moment in both Bollywood and Hollywood. The likes of Ranveer Singh and Kanye West have worn these essentials at the airport with élan bringing out their street appeal. Last week, Varun Dhawan brought back the spotlight on the parka with his nonchalant take on it. Pairing it with a baseball cap and a pair of camouflage pants, he accessorised it with a chain neckpiece. Film world aside, if one looks at the recently-concluded New York Fashion Week, one could deduce that these Fall-Winter staples are dominant for the coming seasons too — seen on the catwalks of Tom Ford and Tory Burch.

Designer Paresh Lamba observes, “Puffer jackets have become an essential part of winter wardrobes. They have always been a bit of a statement piece in themselves, but incorporating some colour blocking or patterns can take things to the next level. Go as loud as you want with this one. Try wearing a statement puffer in either a bold colour or pattern with a jersey, joggers and sneakers.”

GO SLEEVELESS

With athleisure wave refusing to diminish, investing in a piece won’t be a bad idea. Designer Narendra Kumar says, “One will see lighter versions of puffer jackets till the end of spring. The sleeveless version is very suitable for a large part of India where the winter is not severe.”

NOT SUITED FOR MUMBAI

However, there are designers, who opine that it’s suited for travels but not for Mumbai’s muggy climes. Designer Nikhil Thampi shares, “The puffer jackets are not best suited for the Mumbai climate hence, we wouldn’t see people wearing them in the city.”
