Crane rolls over on Hume business site

WorkSafe investigators and ACT Fire and Rescue are attending a Hume business site after a large mobile crane tipped over onto its side during routine maintenance.

Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred about 1.15pm at a construction site on Sawmill Circuit, next to Ullrich Aluminium Canberra, on Friday afternoon.

A police van, ACT Fire and Rescue van, fire truck, and WorkSafe ACT vehicle were on the scene at 4.45pm on Friday. Several WorkSafe investigators were conferring in a demountable at the front of the site.

Workers were putting black mesh on fences surrounding the site to shield the crane from cameras and media. WorkSafe have ensured the area surrounding the rolled crane is safe, and have closed it off to the public.

The crane, brandishing the name Titan Group of Companies, did not appear to have been moved since the incident occurred. Titan supplies cranes, hoists, rigging, and other construction services.

The company declined to comment on the incident or the extent of damage to the crane.

More to come.
