"I'm waiting for them to ask, 'What does it mean to be drunk at a quarter after one?'" Dave Haywood joked, referring to the group's smash "Need You Now"

Lady Antebellum‘s last album was released in 2017, but they’re hard at work on new material. However, now that Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood are all parents, songwriting has a different meaning.

“There’s one song that says ‘Damn’ a few times and Hillary said, ‘Should we take a damn or two out?'” Kelley, 37, recalled while chatting with PEOPLE. “I said, ‘You’re afraid of [5-year-old daughter] Eisele hearing that, aren’t you?'”

In addition to Eisele, Scott is mom to 13-month-old identical twin daughters Betsy Mack and Emory JoAnn, while Kelley is father to son Ward Charles, 3, and Haywood is dad to son Cash Van, 4½, and daughter Lillie Renee, 14 months.

Scott, 32, said the band’s children are now more of an inspiration.

“We lived a lot of life before our kids and we still pull from those places,” Scott said. “They add to who we are and the parents we are,” Scott said.

Haywood, 36, said lyrics are now “richer in quality.”

“We have plenty of songs that we cut early on and they talk about family and having kids, so now to really be in that spot, you’re just speaking from first-hand experience,” he explained.

Of course, as their children age, Lady Antebellum isn’t exactly looking forward to explaining some of the lyrics of their songs to their little ones.

“I’m waiting for them to ask, ‘What does it mean to be drunk at a quarter after one?'” Haywood joked, referring to the group’s smash “Need You Now.”

Scott said, “‘Looking for a Good Time’ — I can wait a while to explain that one.”

The Grammy-winning group doesn’t shy away from their personal lives during their new Las Vegas residency show, Our Kind of Vegas, which kicked off Feb. 8 at the Palms Casino Resort.

During the 90-minute show, the group speaks about their kids and even shows images of them on oversized screens.

“If you don’t want to watch us for this song and you and you want to watch the screens, that’s okay,” Scott said earlier this month. “Those kids are pretty cute.”

The show, in and of itself, is actually quite unique, as it features an acoustic songwriters-in-the-round moment in which the group brings up a special guest (on Feb. 9, for instance, they brought up Richard Marx and Nathan Chapman, who has worked with Lady A, Taylor Swift and others.)

The show, however, is interactive and packed with energy. Lady A creates and party atmosphere during “You Look Good” and “Hey Bartender.” They somehow seamlessly keep the show upbeat during more emotional songs, such as “Hello World.” On Saturday, they even debuted a new song that they haven’t even recorded yet called “Thank God for Crazy Love.”

In addition to the music, Our Kind of Vegas even has a documentary feel, as the group shows videos from when they were just starting out, testing out songs and driving around from gig to gig in their car.

“It’s the show we dreamed of,” Kelley said.

Lady Antebellum returns to Vegas in May, with another round of dates scheduled for August. Tickets are available here.
