Former Chief Minister and head of the coordination committee Siddaramaiah has said that the issue of seat sharing with coalition partner JD(S) would be sorted out based on the winnability of candidates of the two parties.
Speaking to presspersons at Hubballi airport, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the issue of having an alliance for the Lok Sabha elections was not about fixing number of seats for each. “It is decided on basis of the winnability of the candidate. If their [JD-S] candidate has better chance of winning the constituency, it should be left for them, and if our party candidate has better chance of winning then that constituency should be given to us. The discussion will be on these aspects, not on numbers,” he said.
Mr. Siddaramaiah said there was no confusion among the party workers over the issue of candidates, and it would be decided well in advance after the election process begins.
Replying to a query, Mr. Siddaramaiah reiterated that there was no question of begging by either of the coalition partners. “In a coalition government, we have to sit together, discuss, and then decide,” he said. He added that if JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda wishes to contest from Mysuru and if it came up during the discussions, then a suitable decision would be taken.
On getting Priyanka Vadra for campaigning in Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that it would depend on her availability for campaigning in the State.
