The problem is severe at 22nd East Street

Motorists coming from East Coast Road and proceeding towards Thiruvallur Salai have to turn left at the intersection of East Coast Road and Kamaraj Nagar 22nd East Street and proceed through South Avenue Road, Thiruvanmiyur, to enter Thiruvalluvar Salai.

Instead, they drive down East Coast Coast (ECR) along the eastern side of the Thiruvanmiyur terminus to reach Thiruvalluvar Salai, thereby flouting the one-way rule on that short section of ECR.

Similarly, motorists coming from Fourth Main Road and 21st East Street, Kamaraj Nagar, should drive through Thiruvalluvar Salai to enter East Coast Road. But they drive in the wrong direction on 22nd East Street to enter ECR.

The one-way traffic system facilitates free flow of vehicular traffictowards Lattice Bridge Road, Thiruvalluvar Salai and West Avenue Road, from East Coast Road and Kamaraj Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, during the rush hour. But the violation disrupts this arrangement.

“Undisciplined motorists come in the wrong direction at a good speed are pose a threat to the safety of other motorists,” says S. Durga, a motorist, and a resident ofKottivakkam.

After a study of the vehicular movement and the width ofi the strteches in question, a one-way traffic system was introduced to ease congestion .
