The Committee of Administrators (CoA) comprising of Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and a third member has decided to draft a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to raise concerns about Pakistan ahead of the upcoming Cricket World Cup.
"We are sending a letter to ICC raising our concerns about Pakistan which are mainly security concerns," CoA chief Rai said.
Talking about breaking ties with Pakistan in cricket in the near future, Rai further added, "We will be telling the cricketing communities that in future we must sever ties with nations from which such terror emanates."
According to reports, the CoA chief also said that since they have three months' time to take a call on the World Cup match against Pakistan, they could consider speaking to their counterparts in Pakistan.
Rai mentioned that the decision was agreed by all the three members of the CoA. While Rai and Diana were present at the meeting, the third member could not make it due to short notice, according to Rai.
This severe steps against the Pakistan cricket team are being taken as a result of the deadly terror attack in Pulwama on February 14, where 40 CRPF jawans were killed. Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for the attack in Pulwama on February 14.
A lot of former and current cricketers have spoken against playing Pakistan in the World Cup, which is scheduled to commence on May 30 in England and the India-Pakistan fixture is on June 16.
Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has said there should not be any worry if India decided to forfeit the match against Pakistan in Manchester on June 16, as they have a strong unit to win rest of their matches.
Agreeing with Harbhajan, former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin said, "If we are not playing Pakistan in bilateral series, we should not play them anywhere. I agree with Harbhajan, the World Cup cannot be bigger than the country."
In the wake of the Kargil War, Azharuddin had lead India to a win over Pakistan during the 1999 World Cup.
"There was tension...there was the war on. We were scared the spectators would start fighting. When we won, the soldiers celebrated. If you play Pakistan, play everywhere. Otherwise, don't play them anywhere. ICC and BCCI should resolve this quickly," he was quoted in a national daily.
