LUCKNOW: A petrol pump employee whose body was found in Maal was allegedly murdered by a family astrologer over a land dispute.

The accused astrologer Umakant Tripathi of Banda and his aide Shiv Sagar Singh of Hamirpur were nabbed in Maal on Thursday. The police recovered a car, victim’s Aadhaar card and the sharp-edged weapon used in the murder.

Santosh Dixit of Aliganj, who was a cashier at a petrol in the city, had gone missing from a family wedding in Maal on February 17. A few hours later, his body was found near the wedding venue. Tripathi said he had a land-related dispute with Santosh and he executed the crime taking advantage of blind faith that Santosh had in religious practices. “Santosh had promised to help Tripathi in building an ashram. Both bought land in Maal, but Santosh later got it registered in his daughter’s name. Infuriated, he and Tripathi decided to kill Santosh,” SP rural Vikrant Vir said.

On February 17, Tripathi asked Santosh to come at a desolate spot to perform a puja. Santosh followed the instruction as he had deep faith in astrology. As Santosh reached the spot, the two murdered him. SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said Tripathi came under scanner as he went missing after the crime.
