BENGALURU: A 30-year-old West Bengal man allegedly threw acid on his wife, who has signed up for surrogacy with a city fertility centre, after she as unable to pay the Rs 10,000 he was demanding on Wednesday near Kalyan Nagar bridge road, Nagarabhavi, west Bengaluru.
Annapoorneshwari Nagar police said Tapasi Biswas, mother of two daughters and resident of Rail Colony, North Dumdum, 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, sustained 15% burns on her face, chest and head, and is out of danger.

Tapasi’s husband, Chiranjit Biswas, is on the run and has been booked for attempt to murder and punishment for acid throwing under IPC sections.

Chiranjit arrived at the firm on Wednesday morning and took his wife outside. He demanded Rs 10,000 and she tried to convince him that she had not been paid yet. A furious Chiranjit pulled out an acid bottle from his bag and threw its contents on her face, chest and head.
