S. Visakan assumed office as Commissioner of Madurai Corporation here on Thursday.
Prior to the new posting, he had served as Executive Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in Chennai. Earlier, he had served in various districts, including Thoothukudi, Pudukottai and Dharmapuri in the revenue and civil supplies departments.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Visakan said he would concentrate on ensuring uninterrupted water supply, laying roads wherever needed and ensure that the Corporation benefited most from the Smart Cities Mission project.
He said focus would also be on improving the standard of Corporation schools and protection of Vaigai river. When reporters pointed that plastics and other garbage were being dumped on the Vaigai, Mr. Visakan said he would hold discussion with officials, visit the area and interact with the residents in this regard.
Outgoing Commissioner Aneesh Sekhar, who has been posted as Executive Director of TIDCO, did a commendable job in the areas of waste segregation and Smart City project initiatives around Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple and Periyar bus stand.
