Baidu Forecasts Weaker Growth as Chinese Economy Slows

Search-engine giant’s advertising-reliant business is a barometer for the health of China’s private sector

China’s search-engine giant Baidu Inc. expects to post its slowest revenue growth in nearly two years in the current quarter, with advertising pinched by tighter government regulation and the downturn in the Chinese economy.

Baidu reported late Thursday that it will book between 23.5 billion yuan and 24.7 billion yuan ($3.5 billion and $3.7 billion) in revenue, up 12% to 18% from a year earlier. Depending on the final figure, it would be the slackest growth since the first or second quarter of 2017.
