PCMC Standing Committee gets new members

PIMPRI: Mayor Rahul Jadhav here on Friday announced names of new eight members of the municipal corporation’s Standing Committee.

The members are Rajendra Landge, Sheetal Shinde, Santosh Londhe and Aarti Chondhe of the BJP, Pankaj Bhalekar and Mayur Kalate of the NCP, Rahul Kalate of the Shiv Sena and Zamabai Barne, an independent.

Mayor Jadhav announced the names at the civic body’s General Body meeting. The Standing Committee has 16 members, eight of whom retire after two years. The members’ names are recommended by the leaders of their respective parties.

The Standing Committee has 10 BJP members and an independent, representing the group of independents supporting the ruling party in the civic body. The NCP has four members and the Shiv Sena has one member in the Standing Committee.

The term of the new members will begin on March 1. 

BJP’s Chinchwad MLA Laxman Jagtap and Bhosari independent MLA Mahesh Landge will play an important role in the selection of the new head of the Standing Committee. In the past two years, Jagtap’s supporters were elected to the coveted post while Landge’s supporters were elected to the mayoral post.
