KOLKATA: The CID on Thursday claimed it had nabbed one of the masterminds of the WhatsApp group that organised the Madhyamik question paper "leaks" within 10 minutes of the exam on each of the seven days the exam was held.
Cops have apprehended a student from a private school-cum-hostel close to Malda's Englishbazar area. The student is due to appear in the higher secondary exams next year.
CID sources claimed the WhatsApp group called Khokababu has more than 150 members. "We suspect a few centre coordinators, too, are part of the group," claimed an officer. The apprehended student is being brought to Kolkata for further questioning.
Based on the interrogation carried out till now, the CID believes this group has both Madhyamik and HS students as members. "The group was activated barely a couple of days before the first paper and not all group members are known to each other. The group mostly operated out of Malda," claimed the police source.
The Bidhannagar unit of CID had taken up the case from Bidhannnagar cyber security cell on February 12, following a complaint lodged by President of West Bengal Secondary Board Kalyanmoy Ganguly with the Biddhannagar police station.
