NOIDA: Good Samaritans seem to have become a rarity these days, a point reiterated in the case of Noida resident Sanket Soni.
Soni, who met with an accident near the Sector 37 flyover last week, remained lying unconscious for more than 10 minutes on the road even as commuters passed by. Forget about coming to his help and taking him to a hospital, someone stole his bike, which Soni noticed after he regained consciousness.
Soni then himself went to a doctor in Chhalera village and after getting preliminary treatment, filed a complaint at the Sector 39 police station that registered the case only after two days, on February 19.
Sanket’s brother Ashu told TOI that the accident happened when his brother was returning from his office in Kailash Colony in Delhi.
“Around 10.30 pm, when Sanket was travelling towards Chhalera via the Dadri road, his bike skidded near the Sector 37 flyover and he fell down and lost senses. When he regained his senses, he found his bike missing from the spot. Luckily, his mobile phone and wallet were safe,” Ashu said.
After getting a preliminary treatment at a clinic near Chhalera, Sanket, originally from Dehradun, dialled 100 and informed the police about his ordeal. Though a PCR team arrived soon after, Sanket was asked to file a written complaint at the police station, which he did the next morning.
Sanket said there was no one who came to his help despite the fact that he remained lying at the spot for at least 10 minutes. “I looked around while trying to check for my bike around the spot but failed to see it,” he said.
Later on February 17, he called one of his friends who came along with him to file a complaint at the Sector 39 police station. Sanket, who has suffered injuries on his head and foot, is still recuperating at home, Ashu said.
Meanwhile, the vehicle is yet to be traced and cops have no explanation for the delay in lodging of an FIR.
The SHO of Sector 39 police station, Uday Pratap said, the FIR has been lodged in the case under IPC Section 379 (theft). We are investigating the case. If no one came forward for his help, it reflects the deteriorating standards of morality,” he added.
