B.Y. Raghavendra, Shivamogga MP, has expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party will win in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election in Shivamogga parliamentary seat by a huge margin.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, B.S. Yeddyurappa, former Chief Minister, who was the BJP nominee had won by a whopping margin of 3.62 lakh votes against Manjunatha Bhandary of Congress. In the recently held by-election for Shivamogga parliamentary seat, Mr. Raghavendra who was in the fray as BJP nominee had registered victory by a margin of 52,148 votes against Madhu Bangarappa of Janata Dal (Secular).
Mr. Raghavendra told presspersons here on Thursday that there was introspection in the BJP on the decline in victory margin in the by-election.
He said that the alliance between the Congress and JD(S) and low polling percentage resulted in decline in victory margin.
Regarding the preparation for the general election, he said that the booth-level units of the party are being strengthened and focus would be on seeking votes through door-to-door visits. The polling percentage will be high for general election and it will be fought on macro-level issues that includes national security, economic development and stable government, he said.
Claiming that the governance during the rule of the NDA government in the past five years was free of corruption, he said that the inflation was also tamed during this period by adopting shrewd economic policies.
The achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the main poll plank for the BJP. In addition to this, announcement made by the Centre in the budget for the year 2019-20 that includes the decision to give ₹6,000 to small farmers every year under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme and the pension scheme would benefit the BJP in the Lok Sabha election, he said.
