Rajkot: Tired of mental ailment, a surgeon committed suicide by injecting himself with poison at his sister’s house in Raijinagar locality of Junagadh on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Dr Ketan Trivedi (55), who had a thriving practice as a cancer surgeon in Ahmedabad five years ago.

“After a dispute with his wife Lata, who too is a physician, Trivedi separated from her and moved to Junagadh to live with his sister Dr Madhurika Bhatt (57). As he didn’t have a practice any longer, he sank into a deep melancholic depression which finally drove him to take the drastic step,” said M B Makwana, head constable with Junagadh C-Division police station.

In her statement, Bhatt said that Trivedi had become a patient of depression for which he was being treated. On Wednesday afternoon, he locked himself in the bathroom and when he did not open the door, Bhatt forced open the door only to find him lying unconscious.

Trivedi was rushed to Junagadh Civil Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Bhatt said that Trivedi had injected himself with poison which was confirmed by the doctors of Junagadh Civil Hospital.
