Chennai: Student, 22, dies in road accident

CHENNAI: A 22-year-old student was run over by a truck on Tuesday evening while he was returning home from college on a bike.
The deceased was identified as Prasanna Kumar of Mettu street in Anakaputhur. He was doing a postgraduate course from a private college.
Police said around 6.30pm, Prasanna tried to overtake the truck on the Pallavaram-Thiruneermalai Main Road near Nagalkeni. But his bike skidded and Prasanna fell on the road. He was crushed by the rear tyres of the truck.
Police sent his body to Chromepet Government Hospital. Eyewitnesses told police that Prasanna was wearing a helmet and the lorry driver did not see him fall on the side of the vehicle.
The Chromepet traffic police registered a case of causing death due to negligence and arrested the truck driver, Rajendran, 38, of Panruti in Cuddalore.
