Kudumbashree firm to monitor chicken biz
TNN | Feb 22, 2019, 04:48 ISTThiruvananthapuram: Kudumbashree Kerala Chicken Producer Company will be launched in the state to promote the production and selling of chicken by farmers. The company will coordinate the production and sale of chicken from thousands of broiler farms in the state.
The shareholders of the company will be poultry farmers. For promoting the production and sale of the chicken, already several consortiums have been formed. With the formation of the new company, it will be ensured that the poultry farmers get the maximum profit from the sales of their chicken. At present 1,500 Kudumbashree women are involved in poultry farming.
The company will directly procure the chicken from broiler farms and will also supply chicks to the farms. For producing one lakh chicks in a week, breeder farms have been set up in each district. It has been decided to open 25 such breeder farms across the state. The animal husbandry department is providing the technical expertise for this company. At present, 50 broiler farms run by women from ayalkuttams are functioning in the state. The chicken produced from these farms are procured by Kepco at a price of Rs 85 per kilogram.
Local self government minister A C Moideen will inaugurate the company at Palakkad on Friday. tnn
