Maddala Joshnavi Devi, a Class VIII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, NAD, has been selected for the prestigious national scholarship in painting instituted by the Centre for Cultural Resource and Training (CCRT).
She was chosen through the National Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Test that was held in three levels. The first two levels were held at the Regional CCRT Office in Hyderabad in January and May last year while the final one was conducted at the National CCRT in New Delhi in December last.
Joshnavi came out with flying colours at all the three stages. In the final round, she had painted ‘Diwali festival’. She would receive ₹12,600 a year from January till her final year of graduation to pursue painting.
She can take part in national painting workshops organised and sponsored by the CCRT, New Delhi, School principal S. Adisesha Sarma said.

Ms. Joshnavi won the ‘Bala Chitra Ratna’ award from Dream Children Art Academy, Vijayawada last year. She has won 30 national, four State and 15 district and city-level awards. Her art teacher B. Sashibhushana Rao said. Her father M. Balarama Swamy is a daily wager and mother Gowri a homemaker.
