HYDERABAD: As many as 13. 36 lakh land owners in Telangana will be benefited by the central government’s Kisan Samaman Nidhi programme in its first phase when Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches the programme in Gorakhpur on February 24.
“Of the total 25 lakh households eligible for the scheme we have updated the data of 13.36 lakh people on the central server for the first phase. Data of the remaining beneficiaries will be upload on the server by March 1,” said Chitla Partha Sarathi, principal secretary, agriculture, Telangana.
Telangana uploaded data of 8.3 lakh farmers on Monday and another 5.6 lakh farmers on Tuesday. Among these, Siddipet district has the highest number of beneficiaries (79,417) followed by Nalgonda ( 77,345) and Nagarkurnool (74,606). Medchal-Malkajgiri (5,414), Mahabubabad (14,707) and Bhadradri-Kothagudem (21, 083) districts lie at the bottom of the list. 9.4 lakh beneficiaries are from the general category, 2.4 lakh from SC while 1.4 lakh beneficiaries are from the ST category.
Initially, officials planned to take self-declaration from the farmers stating they are not ineligible for the scheme. But with the centre in a hurry to launch the programme, declarations will be taken later. Information has also been sought from the income tax department as the Centre specified that income tax payers are not eligible under the scheme.
