Cohesive alliance will ensure victory in LS elections, says LJP chief

The outcome of 2019 general elections will depend on whichever party — Congress or BJP — is able to garner more allies and stitch a cohesive pre-poll alliance, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ramvilas Paswan said on Thursday.

“NDA will get a clear majority because among the NDA allies, there are no political differences. On the other side if you look at the Opposition alliance, Congress and TMC are at war with each other, the Left does not want to be part of it; SP-BSP are against Congress,” Mr. Paswan said.

The question of who will lead such the Opposition alliance will also drive a wedge, Mr. Paswan said.

“All of these Opposition parties are saying that they will decide after the results. But they will not stand a chance by then to counter the cohesive NDA alliance where the leadership is not an issue,” he added.

The BJP recently finalised its alliance with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.

The NDA alliance in Bihar between BJP, JD(U) and Mr. Paswan’s LJP was sealed in December last year.

BJP and JD(U) are now working on the tricky seat sharing issue.
