The Left Democratic Front (LDF) government has given a new dimension to the infrastructure development in the State, Food and Civil Supplies Minister P. Thilothaman has said.
He was inaugurating the district-level celebrations of the LDF government’s 1,000 days in office here on Wednesday.
Bike path
The Minister said the government had decided to construct a coastal highway with a width of 14 m. “The government is committed to implementing the coastal and hill highway projects. The coastal road will be constructed with all modern facilities, including a bike path,” Mr. Thilothaman said.
He said the government was able to go ahead with the Vizhinjam port and GAIL pipeline projects. “The Kollam bypass road was opened. The Alappuzha bypass project is nearing completion.
Mr. Thilothaman said the State had suffered losses to the tune of over ₹40,000 crore in the 2018 August deluge. “We will rebuild the flood-hit State. The recently presented State Budget will aid the reconstruction. But, at the same time, it should be noted that the State is not getting enough help from the Union government. The Centre has even blocked foreign aid,” he said.
A seminar was organised in connection with the programme.
District panchayat president G. Venugopal presided. A. Sampath, MP, R. Rajesh, MLA, District Collector S. Suhas, District Police Chief K.M. Tomy, and others were present at the function.
