Swine flu claims 14 lives since January

Nagpur: Swine flu tally continues to soar in city and region. Since January 1 this year, it has killed 14 persons. Total 83 positive cases have been reported in this period from city alone. Besides these, 52 positive patients have undergone treatment in the city from adjoining districts including Madhya Pradesh.
The 14 deaths include eight persons from Nagpur city, one in Nagpur rural, one from Bhandara district, two from Amravati district and one patient from Madhya Pradesh. TOI had reported eight deaths till February 12. Six more deaths have been added since then till Thursday.
Dr Milind Ganvir, assistant director health services (malaria), told TOI that the death scrutiny showed that one of the fourteen dead patients was not swine flu positive hence the total toll due to swine flu can be put at thirteen. Dr Ganvir said that so far 125 persons have tested positive for H1N1 in Nagpur division. Most of these are from Nagpur district. These include 53 from Nagpur city and 32 from Nagpur rural area.
Three positive patients each have been reported from Bhandara, Gondia and Wardha districts. Chandrapur, Akola and Gadchiroli reported one positive patient each from the districts. Amravati district alone reported 15 positive patients. Twelve positive patients were reported from MP and one from Kolkata.
The eight deaths reported from city include patients from Gorewada, Godhani, Surya Nagar, Amba Nagar, Swawlambi Nagar, Khamla, Bhande Plot and Ratan Nagar. The other deaths occurred in Kamptee, Anjangaon Surji, Tiwsa, Bhandara, Chhindwara and Amravati.
