Sports complex at NITK inaugurated

A modern sports complex built at an estimated cost of about ₹34.07 crore at the the National Institute of Technology – Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Human Resource and Development, who inaugurated the complex through video conference from Shastri Bhavan in Delhi said the complex will be useful for badminton, cricket, table tennis, squash, yoga etc.

Addressing the faculty and students he confirmed the sanctioning of a new Kendriya Vidyalaya in the NITK campus.

The minister said Indian students are preferred in the US due to their expertise in the latest technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and 3D printing.

K. Balaveera Reddy, Chairman Board of Governance of NITK, K. Uma Meheshwar Rao, Director of NITK, V. S. Ananthnarayana, Deputy Director and other faculty members of the institute were present on the occasion.

The complex is spread over 94,700 sq. ft. area, a release from the institute said.
