The Delhi government had failed to fulfil several promises made by it in relation to slum clusters and unauthorised colonies, alleges Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Wednesday.
The Rohini legislator asked AAP convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as to what had happened to the AAP’s promise.
Mr. Gupta said that in its 2015 manifesto, AAP had stated that within one year of government formation, the unauthorised colonies will be regularised. “It is regretful that though the Kejriwal government had all the rights to carry out development works in these colonies, hardly any progress has been made during the last four years. When the Parliament elections are round the corner, the Delhi government has suddenly woken up to inaugurate development works in 70 out of the 1,639 colonies,” Mr. Gupta alleged.
Mr. Gupta dares Mr. Kejriwal to “honestly reply” to a recent letter from Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri regarding the Delhi government “withholding development works and regularisation of these colonies.”
Attacks Kejriwal
“Mr. Kejriwal’s long silence is testimony to his failure to carry out regularisation and development works in these colonies,” the opposition leader argued.
Mr. Gupta further targeted AAP by seeking to “remind” it about the fact that the Delhi government was expected to define boundaries of the unauthorised colonies. “This work was entrusted to its IP University. It has remained dumped since then. The Central government had granted permission to do development works in unauthorised colonies during the last President’s rule in Delhi, yet the Kejriwal government had failed to initiate any notable work in these colonies,” the opposition leader alleged.
