Builders asked to share fire safety details with GHMC

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commission (GHMC) will start a fresh round of inspection to check whether fire safety norms were followed in multi-storeyed buildings, commercial and business establishments, hotels, hospitals and schools across the city.

GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore, during a review meeting on Wednesday, said owners of these buildings must share details about the fire safety measures they have adopted in the prescribed proforma to be given by the corporation. Based on the voluntary reports, GHMC will conduct inspections, he said.

While reviewing property tax collection, Mr. Dana Kishore said that there would not be any waiver on property tax penalties this time. He urged people to avail the opportunity of ‘Property Tax Parishkaram’ forums for on the spot resolution of issues. The hearings will be held on February 25, 26, 27 and March 1 and 2.

He asked the deputy commissioners to complete collection of property tax before March 15, as the Parliament election notification may come out by February end or March first week. The commissioner, while inspecting lakes in the city on Wednesday, instructed officials to complete the lake development and beautification works before May-end.

He visited Gangaram Pedda Cheruvu, Patel Cheruvu and Pragathi Nagar lakes, along with officials and engineers, and inspected the works, including diversion canals, sewage treatment plants and bunds of tanks.

He expressed anger at officials after noticing that the Ganesh immersion pond at Pragathi Nagar lake was full of plastic covers and waste, and that lakes had been encroached upon by traders.

The corporation has taken up development and beautification of 19 lakes with an expenditure of ₹282.5 crore, of which, work for 12 have been in progress. By monsoon, bund strengthening and sewage diversion should be completed, Mr. Dana Kishore said.

During a meeting with builders on Wednesday, Mr. Dana Kishore informed that the corporation would conduct an awareness meeting with citizens about building permissions. An exclusive grievances’ day was being planned for sorting out issues on the spot. The corporation is also planning to provide empanelled architectural engineers for convenience of citizens.
