FALL RIVER – The Adams House, 1168 Highland Ave., is scheduled for auction on March 5.

The former nursing home closed in the summer.

The facility was housed in a 23,842-square-foot brick building set on a 3.5-acre lot in the Highlands. The west side of the building boasts views of the Taunton River.

The building, constructed in 1896, is made of brick in a classical style with an entrance flanked by large white columns and reached by a circular driveway.

There is additional parking on the west side of the building.

The auction is set for 1 p.m. on March 5 at the building.

The winning bidder will have to provide a bank check for $25,000 immediately and provide the rest of the purchase price within 30 days.

Colliers International in Boston is handling the sale.

“This large lot potentially offers investors and developers an outstanding ‘value add’ opportunity to re-purpose the existing Adams House structure while developing additional residential units on the ‘surplus” land,” the Colliers’ sale listing states.

“Present zoning designation is S (single-family residential district). Zoning calls for maximum height of 35 [feet] and maximum lot coverage of 25 percent.”

The building is vacant now. The furniture and fixtures in the home were sold at auction in August.
