GURUGRAM: In a move that is likely to bring relief to thousands of metro commuters in the city, MCG, along with DMRC and traffic police, will come up with a traffic movement plan to streamline traffic around all metro stations in Gurgaon.
The traffic movement plan will soon be prepared and the traffic police officers concerned will be directed to pay special attention to the areas around metro stations as well as conduct frequent inspections. The decision was taken at a meeting held between DMRC and MCG officials on Thursday in Gurgaon under MCG joint commissioner Rohit Yadav.
Responding to the traffic-related problems raised by DMRC officials, Yadav said, “A traffic movement plan shall be prepared and implemented by traffic police along with the MCG and DMRC.” ACP traffic (east) has been directed to take further action on the traffic movement plan.
According to sources present at the meeting, DMRC had highlighted various problems faced by commuters, including poor sanitation, defacement of property, encroachment by vendors and autorickshaws, and blocking of lanes by vehicles.
In order to deal with rampant encroachment by autos, cycle-rickshaws and hawkers, it was decided that MCG, along with DMRC, will carry out weekly anti-encroachment drives at all metro stations in the city. While the machinery for the drives will be provided by MCG, DMRC will provide the manpower.
Encroachments and illegal parking around metro stations often cause traffic snarls, resulting in great inconvenience to commuters. While traffic police has conducted several experiments to decongest these junctions, they haven’t brought relief.
“We will also undertake road repair work and fill potholes on all roads under our jurisdiction. Wherever the roads are with other agencies, we will communicate with the authorities concerned,” said Yadav.
DMRC officials also raised the matter of the foot overbridge (FOB) at Huda City Centre metro station. The FOB is not covered from the top and its steps are very uneven, officials said. MCG has sought a report from its officials on the matter.
GMDA is also working on the redevelopment of the Huda City Centre metro station, with plans for the construction of an underpass, two FOBs and widening of the road on all sides. Tenders for the project have been already floated. The project is expected to take a year and a half to be completed after tenders are allotted, officials said.
