A man has been hospitalised after a kite surfing incident at a beach in Table View, Cape Town, on Thursday morning, paramedics said.

Table View beaches are popular spots for sporting activities, with the backdrop of Table Mountain.

The man had apparently been kite surfing when tragedy struck.

He is believed to have lost consciousness after experiencing an as yet unidentified medical emergency, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"A fellow kite surfer rescued the man and brought him to the beach."

Meiring said that paramedics found the man lying on the beach, surrounded by members of the public around 11:10.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
