MUMBAI: The HSC exams are off to a smooth start in the Mumbai division. In the state, 14.9 lakh students are appearing for their first paper starting 11 am. Mumbai has the largest pool of 3.35 lakh students.
Board officials said they hadn't received any complaints from the over 592 exam centres in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad. "We recieved a few phone calls before the students reached the exam centre but these were mostly queries about locating their seat numbers or the ink one should use while writing the exam," said a counsellor from the board's helpline.
For the first time, HSC students will answer activity-based questions in core science and language subjects. The board has introduced the new question pattern to discourage rote learning among students and make education more application-oriented.
The state board has received applications from 236 transgender students for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams starting today. This is the first year that Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has introduced the ‘third gender’ option on examination forms. But board officials said they have not been able to verify numbers to find out if any students selected the option by mistake.
Among the pool of transgender students appearing for the exams, the largest of 62 is from Mumbai.
