How to recreate Deepika Padukone’s side-slicked hairstyle at home
- by Avanti Dalal
The actor recently paired her favourite sleek low bun hairstyle with monochrome makeup, creating a beauty look that's perfect paired with a sari

Yesterday, Deepika Padukone attended 2019’s Lokmat Maharashtrian Of The Year Awards in a white chikankari sari by Rahul Mishra. She was lauded for her role in Padmaavat (2018) at the event, where she won the Iconic Performer Of The Year award. While her sari was a classic, the actor made sure to complement it with impactful beauty choices: matte but radiant makeup, and her preferred pulled-back hairstyle.
The best thing about Padukone’s signature deep side-parted bun is that it is super versatile—it looks professional at the office, and works just as well for the evening. The side part looks less severe and more refined, and the sleek low bun keeps strands off the face to allow the makeup and jewellery to shine. Moreover, the hairstyle works with straight-out-of-shower hair with the right products, and lends itself to second-day strands as well. Paired with monochrome makeup—soft brown lips and lids—it lent Padukone a polished look to complement her ensemble. Scroll ahead to learn how to get the actor’s beauty look for yourself.

- If you are starting with damp hair, coat strands with a styling creme like Drybar’s The Chaser Shine Cream to add weight and definition. Create a deep side part with a pintail comb—begin the part right above the eyebrow arch, and section hair into two parts while diagonally moving the comb. Then, blow-out hair (with the diffuser attachment) to keep the part in place, before using a flat-iron hair to get a straight, frizz-free mane.
- Spritz on a smoothing spray like the IGK Good Behavior Spirulina Protein Smoothing Spray to impart high-shine gloss to the entire length of your hair, focusing on the roots. Once your strands are smooth, fasten them with an elastic at the nape of the neck, and twist into a bun, securing with bobby pins. Add a hair donut if you want more volume.
- Use a mattifying primer to the face, focusing on the forehead and down the nose. Once set, apply a matte foundation like the Maybelline New York Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation with a damp makeup sponge. For a flawless finish, dab a few drops of foundation on the different planes of the face, and use quick stippling motions to tap the sponge over the dots to spread the product across evenly. Blend the foundation outwards up towards the hairline and down towards the jawline to seamlessly diffuse the colour at the edges.
- Apply a blush in a darker shade like the Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk to the cheeks and blend upwards. Follow with a liquid luminiser on the tops of the cheekbones and down the nose.
- Fill brows in with a brow pencil like the Innisfree Auto Eyebrow Pencil, making short, quick upward strokes to cover any gaps, and set with a brow gel. Choose an eyeshadow palette like NARS Skin Deep Eyeshadow Palette to create a soft brown smoky eye. Using an eyeshadow brush, apply a light ivory eyeshadow to the brow bone and at the inner corners of the eyes to brighten and open them up. Then, dust a taupe shade at the crease, and use a transitional darker shade on the outer corners, blending the two together. Bring the taupe and darker brown colour to the lower lash line as well. Tightline lids with black eyeliner, and create a tiny, feline flick on the outermost edges with a gel eyeliner. Finish with a brown lipstick to match the eye makeup.
