The Patiala House Courts has dismissed the bail plea of Asees Singh Chadha, the nephew of Ponty Chadha of Wave Group on Wednesday.
He was admitted at RML Hospital around 1 p.m. after he complained of chest pain. A Magistrate hearing his bail plea visited him at the hospital in the evening to verify his medical condition as he did not appear in the court on medical grounds.
Mr. Chadha’s lawyer moved his bail application before the Metropolitan Magistrate, but it got rejected. His lawyer moved the Sessions Court for bail, which will be taken up on Thursday.
The police opposed the bail application on the grounds that the offence committed by the accused is serious in nature and if the accused is released on bail, he might tamper with the evidence and influence the witness.
‘Falsely implicated’
Mr. Chadha’s lawyer sought bail for him, claiming that the applicant had been “falsely implicated”, adding that the allegations made in the FIR is contrary to each other. The FIR states that there was no eyewitness to the present case and thus it can be safely concluded that there was no witness with the prosecution who can identify the applicant for the offence, he also said.
Mr. Chadha, who was driving a luxury car, was arrested and charged with rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder, after he killed a 51-year-old woman, a tourist from Turkmenistan.
Two other foreign nationals and an auto driver also sustained seriously injuries in the incident. Mr. Chadha’s speeding car rammed an autorickshaw in which the deceased was travelling along with two friends on Vinay Marg on Monday afternoon. The others, however, survived the accident.
