Tejashwi’s meeting with Lalu violated rules, cops face action
Sanjay Sahay | TNN | Feb 22, 2019, 04:00 ISTRanchi: The meeting of Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of opposition in Bihar assembly, with his father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) last Saturday was in violation of standard operating procedures (SOP), a report submitted by the superintendent of Birsa Munda central jail said.
After receiving the report on Wednesday, inspector general (prisons) Birendra Bhusan is contemplating to recommend action against policemen deployed for Lalu’s security at Rims.
According to the report, two persons, namely Shalini Mishra and JVM-P leader Bandhu Tirkey had given written applications to meet Lalu, which was approved by the jail authorities. But the third visitor, Tejashwi who arrived at Rims late on Saturday afternoon met him without approval.
Only three visitors are allowed to visit Lalu every Saturday. Normally, a visitor has to submit a written application at Rims and is to be approved by the jail superintendent through WhatsApp.
“The time period for meeting Lalu is between 9 am and 2 pm. Our two staff were waiting at Rims for the visitors but one of them left the place when no one came by 3 pm,” Bhusan told TOI.
“Another staff left Rims around 4pm to have a cup of tea. On his arrival, he told us that he saw Tejashwi sitting with Lalu. Prima facie the policemen deputed at Rims took Tejashwi to Lalu. I am going to write Ranchi police recommending action against the erring cops and asking them to ensure that the SOP for meeting Lalu if followed to avoid security lapses,” Bhusan added.
