The police have made sketches of two men who allegedly thrashed three Kashmiri shawl vendors on a train near Shakurpur Basti, a day after the incident, they said.

Victims helped cops

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said that after the case was registered on Tuesday, the victims were approached to help with the sketches of the two accused men who had allegedly thrashed them.

“A case under Sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered. Sketches of the accused have been made and we have also got a few leads in the case,” Mr. Gupta said.

On Tuesday, three Kashmiris, residents of Sarai Rohilla, who come to the Capital from their village in Kulgam to sell shawls every winter, were thrashed by the two who also allegedly told them “You work in Delhi but pelt stones in Kashmir”.

The victims had boarded the train from Sarai Rohilla and were on the way to Haryana’s Sampla. The incident happened around 11:30am. Scared, they deboarded the train in Nangloi.

The three then called their local MLA in Kulgam who reached out to Brinda Karat, who further helped them approach the police.

“They did not approach the police at the railway station. The complaint was received after they approached Ms. Karat,” said a senior officer.
