Shocking abuse suffered by animals at the hands of their owners have been detailed in an annual 'list of shame'.
New Zealand's Society for the Protection of Animals (SPCA) released their 'List of Shame' on Friday, revealing 15 vile cases of neglect and violence against defenceless pets.
Included on the list were two poodles who had been ignored and left in a garage for two years, 40 German Shepherds tethered on short leashes and living among their own waste, and a dog named George was who was regularly beaten and shot with a BB gun by his vicious owner.

Two dogs named Tank and Sass were found extremely thin with one chained to to a carport post in Whanganui

A dog named Nellie was found chained to a house and living among debris in Auckland
Daisy and Lola, two elderly poodle cross dogs, were found in a garage by SPCA inspectors, and they were so affected by neglect that they 'didn't look like dogs anymore'.
They had been neglected by their owner for two years, and it took a team of six vets and nurses two hours to remove their severely matted fur.
SPCA inspector Kelly King rescued Daisy and Lola, and said they 'didn't even look like dogs' when they were found.
Both dogs suffered from arthritis, dental diseases, were deaf due to ear infections and were nearly blind.
They received dental surgery, had their ears cleaned, infections treated and given pain relief before being adopted out together to a new home where they are thriving.
