Three booked for raping Navapur woman with changed religious identity
TNN | Feb 22, 2019, 04:00 ISTSurat: Mahidharpura police booked three persons for allegedly raping a 35-year-old married woman from Navapur in Maharashtra several times since May 2018.
The woman stated in her complaint lodged on Wednesday that the accused befriended her by concealing their actual religious identity. She approached the police after finding out their actual names from the Facebook pages.
Police booked Rahul alias Wasim Karim Shaikh, a resident of Mithikhadi in Limbayat, his friend Babu alias Aftab Shaikh and Naushad Saiyed. Police are questioning few persons who are suspected to be involved in the crime. Some individuals who have identities matching the woman’s description are also being questioned.
The rape survivor, a mother of 14-year-old girl, claimed that she came to the city to attend a marriage function in May 2018. At the marriage, Wasim met her for the first time and introduced himself as Rahul. Later, they stayed in touch over phone and the woman met him during her visits to the city. Wasim allegedly raped her in his car near a hotel on Ring Road and threatened her of dire consequences if spoke about it to anyone.
After few weeks, Wasim introduced his friend Aftab as Babu who also raped her in another car in Mahidharpura area. The woman alleged that Naushad too raped her.
“We are questioning few suspects as per the descriptions given by the woman. They will be arrested if their involvement is confirmed after preliminary investigation,” said a police officer at Mahidharpura police station.
