Jourdyn had received negative comments from her peers at school, something that had knocked her confidence.

That all changed when her mother joined her, boosting her faith in herself and her ability.

Tammy, who is a cheerleading coach, went on to win the Ms Galaxy Australia 2018 title despite being 20 years older than other contestants and after only entering to support her daughter.

'It all came very natural to me, I didn't feel like I had to prove anything, so I was just myself,' she said.

'I enjoyed everything, one of my favourite outfits was the eco-round, where we wore matching red dresses.

'We chose these as she followed me in my dance footsteps, and I followed her in pageantry.'

Tammy said it was a 'truly amazing' experience that saw their bond strengthen and she was able to see the world from her daughter's eyes.

'I loved being there for Jourdyn for every step of the way and I couldn't believe it when I had won,' she said.

'My life has changed so much, I have been on the TV, radio and had become a clothing ambassador for local stores.'

The glam duo also raised hundreds of dollars for an Alzheimer's charity which was close to home as a family member had recently passed away due to the disease.

Jourdyn said that although she was made to feel disheartened about entering the pageants due to being mocked, her mum knew that deep down she didn't want to give it up.

She enjoyed the fact that they could momentarily switch roles as she was able to give her mum tips on how to do her hair and makeup.

'I knew my mum would win from the start, because she is so confident and pretty, she wasn't fazed that the other women in her division were ten years younger,' Jourdyn said.

'She had it in the bag and being by my side throughout helped me achieve first runner up, I had never got that far before and only previously placed in the top ten.

'All of the other girls couldn't believe she was my mum as she looks so young and they wished they were able to do something like this with theirs.

'I feel lucky to have done this together, we raised money together and people really liked that we were doing this as mother and daughter as that made us unique.'
