MOHALI: Two SUVs (both Toyota Fortuner) were stolen in a similar manner from sectors 69 and 79 in the last 48 hours, thefts that were captured on CCTV cameras.
In both instances, the thieves came in a white colour Toyota Fortuner, broke passenger side windowpanes of the SUVs, smashed their trackers and took the vehicles away. The first theft was reported from Sector 79. Manjeet Singh, the SUV owner, said his vehicle was parked outside the house. “Around 1.30am on Wednesday, three unidentified miscreants arrived in a white colour Fortuner and stole my SUV,” he said. Singh has been given the footage to police.
On Wednesday morning, the second Toyota Fortuner was stolen from Sector 69. Sandeep Singh, the vehicle owner, said the thieves came in a white colour Fortuner and stole his SUV parked outside his house.
Police have registered cases, but refuse to believe that the same gang is behind the thefts. Ramandeep Singh, DSP City 2, said, “We are investigating the two cases.”
