A powerlifter in Michigan helped save a man pinned under a rolled over vehicle last week and is now being hailed a superhero.

At around 4:30 pm on Thursday February 14, gym-lover Ryan Belcher heard a loud smash from his workplace in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He rushed outside and was confronted by a violent crash that saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee resting on its roof and a second vehicle with extensive front-end damage.

After quickly checking the condition of the driver in the vehicle that remained upright, Belcher turned his attention to the Jeep. Noticing that half of the man’s torso was trapped under the car, the powerlifter put his muscles to good use and lifted and pushed the Jeep to save the man.

“Half of his torso was outside of the vehicle and the other half was still underneath in the vehicle. I had no other choice. It was either save a man or not believe in myself. So I just reached in did what I had to do,” Belcher told WXYZ.

“I just lifted and started pushing the vehicle as hard as I could. What’s weird is it’s easier for me to not know the weight.”

Belcher trains at the local gym five days a week and according to him, the crash allowed him to put to use all his power and time spent training to “help somebody.” He later added that he was grateful to not freeze in the situation and for being at the right place at the right time.

“I like being called the Hulk, my son’s favorite is the Hulk and he always says my daddy is the Hulk. To say I’m a hero, I don’t know. I’m glad to have been there and I was put there for a reason.”
